Blogs Websites Postings Informational Learning

Welcome to LilacsNDreams! Earlier in the week I had a couple of appointments. Since then...sadly I have been home sick. Something that was unforeseen. It’s been a long time since this has happened. I guess Mother Nature waved her wand over me this time.

Due to this incident I was not able to get any projects done to share with you, or decide on a topic to discuss with you. I apologize for this mishap. I am sorry, but felt the need to stop by, and drop you all a note to keep you updated. Once the ear is unplugged and stops ringing, I’m not coughing so bad, sneezing, etc etc I shall be back here to share with you. Until then, I wish you all to be healthy, and I hope no one experiences this misery that I have been dealing with.

Thanks for visiting with LilacsNDreams! Stop on by anytime. Next time hopefully it’s much better conditions. Take care everyone!

Old Lamps Repurposed Upcycled Home Outdoor Decor

Old Lamps are Repurposed Upcycled Home Outdoor Decor

Welcome to LilacsNDreams! Happy Hump Day everyone!

Pictured you will see a pair of old lamps that I have started to work on. I was thrifting, found a window cover I was looking for, looked off to the side, and this set of old lamps caught my attention. As soon as I seen them my mind wandered, getting some ideas, and I figured I better pull them down to have a closer look.

Pulling them down was a chore. They were much heavier than what I was use to. I set them on the floor, seen the height, considering the weight, and new I wanted them for solar lights on my front porch.

Got the set home, and the other night I took some time to start pulling apart to gut the electrical out of it. That was a chore itself! Pulled cloth off the bottom, and metal a metal piece that had screws that were like melted in, welded, etc. So, I started from the top, and found I could keep unscrewing there, and that brought the whole bar throughout the lamp loose for me. Just be careful because I could have pieces all over too.

Finally got the wiring, and the socket out. That socket acted like it was glued in. I had to use a couple of tools our son uses working on vehicles. They don’t make stuff like these old pieces anymore, that’s for sure!

Pictures of the bottom of the lamp with cloth removed, and showing how I have one of the lamps gutted. Can’t wait to get these all done so I can then prep for painting, painting, and I think I have my solar lights picked out for them. They are a little bigger, but they seem to be fitting for the size of these old lamps. When I finally get them done I will share the final product with you.

Glass Angels Repurposed Upcycled Reclaimed Home Decor

Glass Angels Handmade Repurposed Upcycled Reclaimed in Home Decor

Welcome to LilacsNDreams! I wanted to stop by, and share with everyone my completed project of Glass Angels I finished creating. I seen a picture of one done similar to what I have done, and liked the idea.

So, I bought some glass chandelier light covers on one of my thrift shopping journeys. I had gotten some styrofoam balls to use for the heads, and later found a store that has a holiday room. In that holiday room is Christmas items, and amongst those items they have the ball ornaments separated by colors. Thinking, and smiling I chose a few different colors to work with. Next was to figure out how to make some wings, buy some wings made, design some, etc. For these particular Angels I chose to make them from wired ribbon which I already have a collection started of that. I had a small collection of colored pipe cleaners, and other little embellishments I’ve collected over time.

I started these angels, and the easiest part to do was gluing their heads on. I had ideas for everything else I wanted to do. But, after I got started I altered this idea into that. I changed this thought to do that instead. I think you got the idea. What really takes me the longest in this process of everything is the gluing, drying, and setting time. I glue things, keep them in place a bit for things to start setting, and have them set enough that they will hold on their own. Once this happens I walk away for a while to let things set more permanently in order to complete other things I want to do before the piece is considered fully completed. Everyone has their own ways, techniques, and procedures that they do with crafting. This is my way that I am comfortable with, and it works for me as I have not had issues of anything falling apart, and I have had customers happy with their purchases as well.

This picture shows pretty much how it all started before I got these glass angels completed.

This is all 3 glass angels that I have completed so far. Each one is different in one way, or another.

This glass angel I chose to do with more of a green accent coloring. Her halo, wings, and embellishments focus around green coloring.

This angel was done with a soft pearl pink done around the neck, more of a white and silver wings with colored lines accenting it, and a simple clear fluorescent like button on front of her neck.

This last angel was done almost identical to  the one above here. Only difference is in the color of neckline that it has. It’s more of a dark berry like purple.

I will keep you updated as to when these will be made available in my Etsy Shoppe

Thanks so much for visiting with LilacsNDreams! Hope to see you again soon. Feel free to drop by anytime, leave a comment, share with all of us here, etc.

Glass Angels Cake Cupcake Plate Repurposed Upcycled Handmade

Glass Angels Cake Cupcake Plate Repurposed Upcycled Handmade

Welcome to LilacsNDreams! Below you will see a couple pictures for some crafty items I am working on tonight. I have quite a few pieces of different glasswares, and I am pushing myself to get busy with creating some things. I have fun repurposing, upcycling, reusing, and making some handmade pieces. Right now I am focusing on some glass angels, some cake cupcake plate pedestal stands, candy and treat stands, snowmen, etc. I am still listing vintage collectibles with my Etsy Shoppe and by July I am hoping to be adding my handmade items to my Shoppe as well. As of right now I am planning a “Christmas in July” because a lot of pieces I am making will be for the holidays. Some of them will be universal to use at different times as well.

These are the angels I have started. They are made from glass chandelier light covers for the body, their heads are made from Christmas ornaments. I am making angel wings that are from ribbon which is drying right now. I like to give things time to dry, and set before I move onto other things/completing. I got ribbon around the one neck, and the other 2 I think will get some colored mini pearls to blend with the ribbon being used for their wings.

This picture shows 2 pieces of hobnail glass that I will be connecting. The perfume bottle appeared to have something at the bottom of the glass. So, I tried doing a light cleaning again to see if it was removable. I had to let it dry thoroughly before connecting it to the plate.

This picture is the completed piece I made. I had another idea for the base with this plate, a good sized heavy glass candle holder, but as I turned the corner at the thrift store I seen the perfume bottle, and just knew I had to put them together.

I hope everyone had a wonderful memorial weekend! I do apologize for skipping a visit with y’all last week. Husband with truck, my own appointments, few measurements for our bedroom to order some things to be updated, course shopping for more vintage collectibles and some glassware to craft with too.

Still without a computer too. Using the new iPad I got before Christmas. I have someone that wants to look at my computer as soon as we can get schedules to work out. Otherwise I have been looking at computers preparing for having to get one. Love the iPad, but there are some things I need the computer for. My website would be much easier to work with, and I could get what I need done to it too. My listings at eBay would be just a little bit easier too. So so sorry, please bear with me everyone.
